Takayama has two morning markets (asa-ichi). Both take place every morning from 7 to 12. There is a small one in front of Takayama-jinya, which is called Jinya-mae market, and there is a larger one on the east bank of the Miya-gawa river. We visited the Miya-gawa market. Vendors sell vegetables, trinkets, souvenirs, and ready-to-eat food.
We arrived at around 8, and has a pleasant beginning of the morning walking around the many stalls and tasting all the different kinds of food.
