Hida-no-Sato,
Hida Folk Village

Sake Barrels in a shop in old town, Takayama A short busride from the Takayama city center is Hida-no-Sato, or Hida Folk Village. In this open-air park you can find a 20-some original Japanese houses from the Hida area around Takayama. The houses have been replaced here from their original locations. Several old craftsmanships are displayed, and the product can be bought. You will need a morning or afternoon to explore the park.

From the park one also has nice view on the Japanese Alps. It is a short busride from the Takayama train station (250 yen), or a good 30 minute walk.

I think it is one thing you must see when you are in Takayama.

This was our last place we visited before we went to Matsumoto by bus, and we crossed the snowy Japanese Alps.
